| Located in south west Scotland with a population of around 4,009, Lockerbie was traditionally a trading post for both sheep and cattle, with sheep auctioning still actively taking place. However it is perhaps best know for the Lockerbie disaster involving Pan Am Flight 103 which was brought down by a terrorist bomb in 1988 resulting 270 fatalities of which 189 were American. This initiated the largest police investigation in Scottish history with two men charged and one jailed in 2001. |
